Recruits- why can't we hold on?

What seems to be the problem with Michigan holding on to their commits? Do we not have enough staffers giving them the attention they need all the way through sign on day?

I think for one Michigan offers a lot of kids - a LOT and way more then others. I don't think Michigan subscribes to - hey we have 3 LBs in this class so let's stop - they will keep offering the best of the best and that is a turn off to some kids. In general, I am ok with that. If kids are that much of a premadonna where they need coaches to ping them every day and wipe their butts or if kids are afraid of playing or competing against the best, you will never get a tough hard-nosed program.

At the end of the day though, if Michigan wins 10+ games this season, recruiting will take care of itself. There is a lot going on for Michigan right now:
  1. Jim Harbaugh - he has put Michigan on the map again and kids like that. Some kids might think that is a turn-off but I think a lot of kids will see it as a fun experience
  2. Talent under him has developed leaps and bounds and kids will see that. Ruddock and Henry were not NFL talent and now they are. Neither was Chesson. His player development has been great.
  3. Over a dozen true freshmen played against Hawaii and looks like will keep playing and if you are a freshman you have to love that - you have the opportunity to play right away versus redshirting, etc.
I am not worried about recruiting at all - all said and done, we will get some very good players in my mind.

Out of curiousity though - what was the last decommit from Michigan that ended up doing "really well" in college that we think "wow we almost had him"? I am just curious - would be good to see. I guess Pharoah Brown did well at Oregon pre-injury. Anyone else?

Why worry about class of 2018? Nothing is binding until national signing day each year. As long as Michigan wins on the field they'll have a top 5 class with a coaching staff to help them improve.

Yes, the recruiting bus has driven off the side of a cliff.

But do not worry, Harbaugh is putting it back together piece by piece with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Keep winning and playing a ton of true freshman, and everything will be just fine. The thing I really appreciated about Harbaugh and his staff is the way they closed on the 2016 staff. Never seen that happen so strongly at Michigan before.

Offering early and kids change their minds for various reasons. Don't worry. We will sign great players under Harbaugh. Recruiting today is a ridiculous scam and lots of players who are truly good are often overlooked early on.

It is way to early and many of these kids want selfish attention. Once they are orally committed the media stops, the colleges don't ,but the kids want the attention !!! So they feel cheated that they didn't' go visit places and attend parties so after the visit they then pull out the "I'm going here for the academics! " I worry about next February 2017 then I do 2018. "74

The kid said he didn't have a close relationship with the LB coach who controls his playing time. I respect him for saying that because at least he's honest and gave a legit reason for decommitting. He will learn though that you have to earn playing time through hard work and not because of relationships.

Last year looked chaotic and crazy from our fan perspective and ended it appears outstandingly. I'm done worrying about the lives of 16 year olds and trust the process of a coach that keeps pulling all the right levers.

Just look at Texas. They did nothing until end of January and came away with a talented class.

I get the feeling that usually when a player jumps off the present UM ride one at least as good is waiting to jump on. I'm not at all worried about the loss of players with so much time to fill this and future classes. Winners in recruiting usually fill their classes later than sooner (besides O$U this year).

This 'coming and going' is one reason BO retired. He said he hated and would not prostitute himself to get a recruit! GBGB"74.

1. I think UM takes 'commitments' but both parties aren't really committed to each other...more of a feeling out/dating process.

2. Taking 'commitments' doesn't mean squat over a year out.

3. A poster said something today that I wholeheartedly agree with...following recruiting is a futile process. Essentially a waste of time for the most part. As I have stated...I don't follow these guys until no sooner than 60 days before NLI...in fact probably closer to 30 days.

With Harbaugh...just tune in late in the process. It's musical chairs for both parties.

do you think there will be any fall out from coach eating boogers with the recruits ???

Relax - we'll be fine. In today's game the nature of a "commitment" is different than it was 10 or 20 years ago. We should reach February with a strong class in any event.

All but 2 were processed. And the 2 that weren't were extremely shaky commits from the day they committed.
