Friday night past I attended the Concord de la Salle-Buchanan High (Clovis) game at the Buchanan home field. It was a beautiful night here in the Cali Central Valley with de la Salle (ranked somewhere in the #8-12 range nationally) taking on the #2 ranked team here in the CIF Central Section. Both teams undefeated coming in. Near capacity crowd of probably 8,000 fans.
I was particularly interested in TE Isiah Foskey from de la Salle since he is a Michigan offered 2019 recruit who has expressed some interest in UM in the past. Talking to one of the de la Salle fans during the JV game I asked about Isiah. Was told he was a great kid who, if you stood next to him for an hour, would probably not say three words. Said the kid's dad was not a football fan and didn't know about such either on or off the field. He introduced me to the dad at halftime and I would say that Isiah probably got his quiet demeanor from his dad.
During warmups, #18 really stood out stature wise. Big, tall, moves really well, but seemed to stand around a lot even during the pre-game. Other kids just seemed to be into it more. During the game, playing both TE and middle linebacker, he just seemed to disappear. No receptions and no tackles to my recall.
I have read someplace he is probably not coming to Michigan and, if he doesn't, I'm not sure we are that much worse off.
Kendall Milton, on the other hand, does not have UM in his top ten, but is the real deal. Best feet I have seen in a high school running back in many years. Scored three touchdowns, one a 77 yarder, on 11 carries Buchanan alternates their running backs). He was be a big time get but, sadly, it doesn't seem like it will happen. Will see him again this Friday night against Central (Fresno). This is Buchanan's biggest threat to winning the Section. These two teams played in the finals last year with Central winning.
Oh yeah, de la Salle beat Buchanan 31-24.
