What do folks think will happen with all the players still in play?

Carlo committed to Michigan today which was an area of need. Here's my prediction on the kids still in play:
  • Corley - ends up at MSU
  • Hill - ends up staying at PSU
  • Walker - Michigan
  • Caleb Kelly - Oklahoma bound, since Michigan is lukewarm with him at best
  • Gray - Auburn. I am convinced the SEC pays players and they will figure out how to land him
  • Nauta - Georgia
  • Conner - Michigan
  • Mathis - Michigan
  • Davis - Michigan
I think we end up with a pretty awesome recruiting haul but we miss out on 3 of the 4 5-star recruits still in play for Michigan. It's hard to get kids that seriously consider the SEC because a) I think they get paid and b) they never ever have to go to classes and can workout all day long

Thoughts?

I don't remember which recruit said "Harbaugh knows how to get players into the NFL" but he was right. No college coach has closer recent ties to the NFL than JH and that resonates with today's high schoolers. Georgia is in flux; Auburn is showing its true colors; PSU will lose another 2 games and lose its entire offense when Hackenberg leaves (anyone can see the poor kid has regressed under Franklin). UM is on the rise and every kid can see that.

I don't disagree, but remember if that were the case all the top players would end up at OSU or Alabama or even Oregon. There are so many things that go into this. Hill will go to PSU because he committed there and I don't think we sway him. Auburn and Georgia while both sucking will still get their recruits and like I said, I think the SEC has the worst recruiting practices in all of college football. Logic says all these kids should come to Michigan but JH is also the kind of coach that will not guarantee you a job - you have to work for it - and a lot of HS 5-stars expect that they be handed the starting job in Year 1. For instance, Corley has said on record that he refuses to redshirt and expects to start wherever he goes. That type of attitude won't work under JH. Think about the fact that we have 2 5-star RBs sitting on the bench right now. Kids that are highly ranked and want to work hard will come to Michigan.

This is a great point when it comes to the segment of the high end entitlement recruits (call them 5 stars...generalization).

Some of them think it's beneath them to compete with a lower rated guy since (in their mind) they could have gone anywhere so they resent they have to compete for it when they could have made another choice and not had to deal with all this competition.

This is where I think Dantonio was ahead of the curve. He scouted/evaluated well and none of his players expected they were guaranteed a position whereas a guy like Hoke was 'promising' a lot of his guys a starting position based on seniority. Probably got him more high rated recruits because of this philosophy.

We all know how that worked out.

Yeah Dantonio rarely plays true freshmen - I heard the announcers mentioning that he likes all his players to try to redshirt. His formula works because it allows kids to mature over a year, learn the play book, grow stronger, etc. Very rarely do you see a player shine as a true freshman and light it up - Jadaveon is probably a rare exception. Look at Peppers, he's a 2nd year kid and while he shows flashes of brilliance you can tell he will be unreal next year - a year wiser, a year stronger, and will anticipate better.

I think we're in the running for Mique Juarez, and if we do get him on campus, we will be, at the very least, in his top group.

There are also a few other guys you're missing. Devin Bush Jr at the very least.

what about Q Nordin...PSU's kicker? many PSU fans are hearing it's just a matter of time he's going to commit to Michigan, his home state.

what are you guys hearing?

Actually that one is interesting. The latest rumor is that we're very happy with Kenny Allen (current kicker, Junior) and not as much with Andrew David (scholarship kicker, freshman). Seeing as Allen has another year, we may not have a scholarship available for Nordin, so he'd have to come in as a preferred walk-on for the first year before getting a scholarship.

Again, this is a message board rumor, but it makes sense.

Not to mention: at Stanford. 25 walkons, 15 earned scholarships, 5 went to the NFL. Watch out for preferred walkons brought on by Partridge and Harbaugh..especially from California..

Gray can go to Auburn as long as we get Gary.
