1. I'm going to miss Karan Higdon. He's not an elite tailback, but he's a very good one, and a guy who, despite his size, has consistently gotten stronger as the game goes along.
2. I was one of the folks who wanted to replace Runyon and JBB after Notre Dame. I was wrong. Both are playing excellent football.
3. Lewerke was awful. Just awful. That said, every Big Ten QB has been awful against us (except for a little more than one quarter of NW's Thorsen). There's a reason for that. McSorley and Haskins are yet to come, but our pass defense has been spectacular to date.
4. I do not understand the rule in college football which allows an offensive team guarding a lead in the fourth quarter to run time off the clock, commit a penalty (even a dead ball one such as false start), and then have the clock start again and run another 40 or so seconds off the clock before the next play is run. It ran time off the clock for us when we wanted to do so, but it's an absurd rule.
5. We ran 10 pass plays on first down today (8 passes attempted, 1 sack, 1 scramble). The stats--5-8 passing for 137, 2 rushing (including the sack) for minus 2 yards. On downs other than first down, our passing stats were 9-17 for 75 yards. I haven't done a full season analysis yet, but my memory is Patterson is way, way better in first down situations than in others.
6. Having now seen the video of pre-game, **** MSU and Dantonio--they set it up and then whined about the response. While I have always thought that showing your "toughness" by chirping was/is overrated, sometimes you have to fight back and call out guys pulling crap like that. The same way that Charles Matthews laughing in Nick Ward's face set a tone for us in the BTT game, this did too.
