Let me preface this by saying that I have been trying to tell people this was going to be a tough year since the day JH was hired. This is the year that the crappy 14-15 classes come home to roost. But with that said, the play of the offense all season and the loss to a pretty bad Sparty team last night are indicators that we have issues beyond youth and depth.
We've had 2 great recruiting classes, but for the most part it's been concentrated on the DL, LB, and DB positions. We have not recruited at near the level most thought we would at QB, RB, and OLine. We had a great class at WR, but 2 things come to mind on that: DPJ and especially Black show signs, but personally I don't see what I saw in our freshmen phenom receivers of the past: Terrell, Manningham, etc. Of course, it helps if you have Brady, Henson, or Henne throwing it to them.
I am just unimpressed with our offensive recruiting (and development, but that's another story). Maybe we have too many cooks in the kitchen; maybe it's too many NFL guys without the desire/ability/connections to recruit.
Jim S. made a statement that he suspects Drevno and Jay H are probably untouchable. That's a really concerning statement. Will Drevno be Harbaugh's Funk? This offensive staff is not getting it done on so many levels....we will see if the "meritocracy" really exists. I am concerned that the Fisch and Wheatley departures are telling of a deeper problem.
But hey, we have a third straight great recruiting class on deck right? Oh, wait minute...
