I saw your 2016 commitment list. Impressive. Am I right that there is only 1 recruit from Michigan? Why is that?

The instate class is weak overall. MSU has only 3 kids from MI right now. We have offers out to 2 who are undecided - Hill & Corley and there were a few who left the state like Jordan to OSU and Hayes and Kareem to ND.

Michigan prep football is only strong in pockets like Detroit and the surrounding area or the Saginaw area. Big private schools provide most of the recruits. Harbaugh knows this as well. Michigan has always relied on Ohio for most of its recruits and Tressell took that away. Meyer will also halt most of that and that is why Harbaugh is recruiting the south so hard and it is working when the SEC is not on top anymore.

I believe that U of M does not have one recruit out of the top 70 players in Ohio. This is probably a first in the history of the program ,in regards to, Ohio recruits. The danger of taking kids from far away is they do not value the rivalries and the process that go into them. MSU, OSU and U of M have long built their dislike of each other with the players from the others state. U of M might be missing out on this with only 3-4 recruits from Ohio in their last two classes. Just a thought.

Recently, the Spartans seem to be recruiting Ohio much harder than the Wolverines. There are those who say one reason MSU beat OSU was because they had so many kids from Ohio who were snubbed by OSU. They then wanted payback. The problem is the Buckeyes cannot take them all.

times have changed for Ohio recruits. It's a good place for recruits but Cali, Florida and Texas are even better. I agree that it's maybe a first that I can ever recall not a single Ohio recruit but I can guarantee you that out-of-staters relish rivalries vs. MSU and OSU as much as any kid from that state. Frankly I like JH's strategy and winning will attract more Ohio players than losing.

btw, has anyone explained who developed OSU's game plan vs. MSU? I was with a former coach the other day and asked the same question. He, too, was dumbfounded.

Any explanation.

No. There were some factors. Weather and injuries to key playmakers. That said, no excuses. OSU lost.

The weather was terrible, much worse than it looked like on TV. Urban crawled into the fetal position and played not to lose x10 and he lost. Maybe his worst coaching job ever.

Well, most in Buckeye nation believe that game will cost the OC his job at the end of the year.

I am not sure I agree with the fact that Michigan has a weak class - the state of Michigan that is. I believe the Top 10 players in the state are all ranked in the Top 250 in the nation. When one state has 10 players in the Top 250 nationally you can not say that this is a weak class. MSU will end up with 4 of the Top 10 players as I expect Corley and Hill to both sign with Sparty especially since we seem more interested in pursuing Long from California after his decommitment. Notre Dame also grabbed 2 good ones from the Top 10.

I personally have no issues with recruiting nationally - I think if you want to win in this day and age consistently you have do that. OSU recruits well nationally as does Stanford, Bama, etc. While others may not understand the rivalries sometimes they were just content beating OSU or MSU and winning the BIG versus going for a national championship. I like what JH is doing - bring in the best possible players into the program regardless of where they are from. If we get Rashan, we will have full talent parity with OSU and the top SEC schools come 2017 as next year's class is looking pretty decent as well.
