schedule. IF PSU played Portland State instead of Pitt, what would committee have said?

It's a bitch for sure. Like I mentioned before, it's the Baylor way & the Kansas State method from the mid-late 90's approach. Play ZERO teams that can jump up & bite you pre conference.
Having said that, under your scenario......PSU is going to the Georgia Dome.

In that scenario .... Penn State is in. But Ohio State is out (Washington would remain).

Politics matter with this committee and each conference has their vested interests. There is no way that 2 teams from the same conference ever make the playoff unless they simply have no other viable choice.

Totally disagree. No way U-Dub resume stacks up with O$U.

I believe Washington is better than PSU. But let's talk about this FAIRLY.

Teams need to be judged on their record. All schedules are not equal. Games shouldn't be judged by one quarter but in their entirety both at home and on the road.

Washington only has a loss to a very good USC team. PSU has two losses on the road or you consider the Pitt loss on a somewhat neutral field.

PSU whether I like it or not beat OSU at home. It's a WIN. Wisconsin has lost to the best 3 teams in the East. So other than OSU who did PSU beat?

Washington deserves to be in the playoffs and it would be WRONG to keep them out. PSU deserves to be Big Ten Champions.

End of story.

PSU didn't deserve a playoff bid. They played a terrible conference schedule outside of Michigan and OSU, and got destroyed by us. No one outside of Pennsylvania actually thought they were the best team in the league.

What this really shows is how broken our system for determining a conference champion is. You have 14 teams and play nine conference games. It's ridiculous.

Ped State lost to a bad Pitt - USC would destroy them.
Pitt is not a bad team. Beat Clemson on the road in case you didn't notice.
On paper, sure you can say USC is favored, plus homefield advantage. But on paper PSU shouldn't have hoisted the trophy either. Lets quit bashing on them for their on field performance. It's plain stupid & reeks of ignorance. They closed the deal after our beatdown of them, end of story.

Ultimately, they played EVERYBODY we played (sub Minnesota & Purdue for the Illini) Granted their roadies weren't as tough, but they throttled everyone outside of us when it mattered most.
