PSU AD puts James Franklin on notice (link)

Blowouts (e.g., losing by 4 TDs to Ohio State in 2015) happen.

Quitting in a blowout (what happened in the PSU/MSU game in 2015) should never happen. There was quit in that game.

In the Alligator Bowl, PSU was down 24-3 against a good Georgia team and rallied under backup QB Trace McSorley to make a game of it. That was encouraging. I am cautiously optimistic that PSU will be a rare example of a team that loses a 2nd-round-draft-pick QB and becomes better at the position: McSorley does seem more liked by the team vs. the "I've mailed it in" Hackenberg.

Agree. While Hack may have had the "tools", it was obvious the second half of his career he didn't have the "head" for leading the Lions.

Better line up front? Should be, so that will help. Once a QB gets happy feet, it's hard for them to settle down.

New OL coach is an old Gopher --- Limegrover. Seems like he's getting good reviews.

At the very least, he doesn't moonlight on the Food Channel as a celebrity chef (no joke!!!) like our previous offensive line coach. Watch this, as this offensive line gets chopped and diced into pieces!!!

By the way, you are getting torn up on BWI. Do they actually think you're not a Penn State fan? Bunch of clueless old farts over there.

Why don't you meet up with some of those guys at one of your games? Show them what a true Penn Stater you are. Just check the wheelchair section.

Reading comprehension problem?

Definitely and laughable.

Well like the other PSU lunatics, you fail to see what a HORRIBLE coach James Franklin is. Absolutely one of the worst in-game managers out there. He can talk all he wants...his actually coaching skill has definitely been proven to be laughable at best.

True, but Michigan's AD hasn't been making statements like Barbour's, has he?

I think you're whistling past the graveyard if you think Franklin gets another free pass this year.

FWIW, I wasn't talking about Michigan there --- PSU lost to OSU by 4 touchdowns this year. I guess Michigan did too but I wasn't intending to take a cheap shot.

PSU's 38-10 loss to OSU was an acceptable blow-out. The team played hard and didn't quit, OSU was just significantly better. Much more acceptable than the loss to MSU where PSU did quit.

Franklin deserves to be on the "hot seat", IMO. He talks a lot and hasn't backed it up.

On a side note, I have 0.000% understanding for why many non-PSU folk seemingly want Franklin to lose his job. What happens then? Then PSU, a school that has a lot of structural advantages in the college football world, hires somebody else. Perhaps a very good coach.

The Sandusky scandal is not something that is going to be a long-term impediment to success for PSU football (sorry, my friend, but that is true).

It may take awhile --- we will likely wander the desert and go to a lot of Gator Bowls under James Franklin, and perhaps even coaches after that. But I'm 100% confident that PSU football's long-term future is very bright.

I've met 2 of the BWI folk in real life. We get along.

Oh, I don't necessarily want Franklin to be fired, and in any case what I want doesn't really matter. It's just interesting that a lot of people (UM fans included) thought Franklin was a great hire, and now it's not looking so good. Coaches being on the hot seat is one of the fun things about college football, I think.

At least Franklin is not incompetent. He is no Hoke.

Let me tell you...Hoke is arguably the worst on the field college football coaches ever. On the field. I think Faust and others (Bobby Williams) are right there and I can't tell you who is the worst but Franklin isn't anywhere in that ballpark. Or RR for that matter.

Here is what I am getting at. You can have a decent coach who just may have some weaknesses like a RR in regards to defense or understanding that they need to adapt because the conference style is different than what they became successful at previously. Franklin can clearly coach a little but is not a great game day coach.

That being said...guys like Hoke and Williams and Faust were just so out of their element as high level big time coaches that they failed miserably. Franklin is not one of those guys. I would classify Franklin as potentially a guy like who coached at Texas with Young. Forget his name. If you give Franklin an all world type player he can win but if you give him the same talent as Meyer or Dantonio or Harbaugh he is going to lose 9 out of 10 times.

This is a good point. I hope he coaches there a long time. Winning about 7 games a year.

Didn't they lose 55-13 to Michigan State?
