Proud Cousin Brag (kinda long ... deal with it)

My cousin, Roger Trevisan, was a fantastic golfer: he won the Michigan Junior Amateur when he was a senior in high school and got a full ride to golf at Pepperdine. But he was a HUGE Wolverine fan (I used to take him to games when he was a young teen, I was a Michigan cheerleader and my roommate played on the basketball team). He was also a bit of a homebody who didn't like being so far away from his family in Michigan and got burned out on golfing so much (I *wish* I had that problem!) so after a year (or two - it's been so long that I don't remember) he transferred to UofM to finish school.

Despite Jim Carras' best efforts to lure him out of retirement. Roger never golfed for UofM. But he remained a devout UofM fan, and met his future wife while at Michigan. Together, they had two kids: Maddy and Nick.

Shortly after Nick was born, when Roger was just 30 years old, he was diagnosed with cancer. I was pretty well connected with UofM then, and arranged to have a few things autographed by some of the coaches and sent to the house to cheer him up as he fought that beast ... for 14 years! He never complained, never sulked, and always took time to ask how YOU were doing rather than focus on his own situation.

Roger passed away in July 2014, when his daughter about to begin her junior year in high school and son was about to become a freshman.

Fast forward to Sunday, October 29, 2017 ... when Maddy (who ended up being president of her senior class and of the National Honor Society at Farmington High School) just won her second Big Ten Championship as a member of the women's cross country team, while her brother (now a senior at Farmington H.S.) recently announced that he has accepted a scholarship to run for his parent's alma mater next year!

I'm pretty sure that Roger was high-fiving Bo Sunday afternoon ... and probably bragging to the old man that his daughter has won more Big Ten championships than the entire football team in the past decade! (Normally, that thought would put me in a foul mood, but thinking of how happy Roger would be definitely eases the pain!)

Miss you, Rog!
