Pre-season vs today

I think the difference between some of the pre-season expectations and today are striking.
  • The light turned on for JOK and he was a legit 2nd option. --- No comment.
  • WR crew was most talented in a decade. --- After Black, it doesn't seem there were really any real standouts (DPJ will eventually be good, but he's still figuring it out)
  • Corners were being called out by Zordich just a week before opening kickoff as not being good enough. --- Aside for a few blown plays (which will always happen), they've played terrific.
  • Pep Hamilton's pass offense would add creativity and new wrinkles in the offense. --- Maybe, but too hard for our team to execute. TEs seem way underutilized.
Conversely, we also thought:
  • Defense is young and will need some time to get acclimated. --- Youth may have played in yesterday's penalties, but that's being beyond nit picky for the way they've performed to date
  • Right side of line was a big work in progress. --- This continues to be true, but the OL is not solely to blame for the offense's woes (e.g. atrocious blocking by our RB/FB group)
  • TEs went 6 deep. --- Doesn't look to be that deep (Gentry and McKeon look to be "the guys"), but the position group has looked like a strength (if we had a QB that could get them the ball).
  • Jay Harbaugh's approach with our RBs would be better suited for the talent we had (i.e. no "big back" approach of TW). --- Dunno what TW was teaching that the kids didn't like, but can't say play has improved over last year (minus Higdon yesterday).
What are the biggest discrepancies between your pre-season expectations and what you've seen?
