We all know that the LB position is a question mark this year with no returning starters. We're hopeful that position can be "coached up" due to the lack of actual solid game experience.

With the bevy of "talented" defensive lineman supposedly in the fold, does anyone have an opinion as to whether they could insert 5 of them at one time & essentially line 1 up at linebacker? Maybe show 5 man front initially before shifting 1 into a more standard linebacking position? If so, who would be the most likely candidate or candidates?

Hmmm.

1. The linebacker's are actually going to be solid. They won't be Gold/Jones or David Harris but plenty solid.

2. No need to do anything crazy. UM may show some 5 man fronts in short yardage situations/goal line stands.

Now to your question. You want UM to play to the strength of the team. Interesting. That would be a massive bull rush but one less guy in the middle of the field against an opponent who can possibly hit a quick slant or screen pass.

I am saying it would in most cases be overkill. Another variable is why not save a guy for rotation.

Interesting thought. You will see the 5 man fronts in short yardage situations on occasion depending on the opponent.
