worse that the tOSU loss hurt the perception of ours.
There's the idea circulating here that the loss in Columbus changed the perception of Michigan as a rising power about to eclipse tOSU. Okay, maybe there's some truth to it. But....have there been others, elsewhere, that were worse?
I'm going with the blowout that Rutgers suffered (at the hands of UM!) in the 1976 NCAA tourney semi-finals. They were undefeated going into that game and there was some debate as to whether the record was the product of a weak schedule or whether Rutgers was the real deal. Believe it or not, a fair number of folks thought Rutgers was the best team in the country not called Indiana.
After the loss, the Michigan Daily captioned a photo from the game:
"The loss leaves Rutgers with a 31-1 record, including an 0-1 mark against quality competition".
