They had Sonny Vaccaro on earlier...he stated that in the 70's, he negotiated contracts for CBB coaches to the tune of $5M, part of the plan was that fans, coaches and HS programs would see their fav college/coach in Adidas/Nike shoes and gear...the public would buy it.
It wasn't until the late 70's if I remember, the U of Miami, FL asked for a University sports-wide deal could be made. They listed the top 6 now w/ UCLA ($280/15 yrs.), OSU, Texas, Michigan ($173M/15 yrs), L'ville was 6th ($160M/10 yrs.) Vaccaro really laid it on the NCAA, they saw no problem w/ other the $$ being given. Jay Williams went after the NCAA right from start on the show, he and Vaccaro said the schools/NCAA just kept opening the vault. It was a great show...
