Idea for some message board fodder after @Macdaddy7657's post about FOOTBALL yesterday, and the IFT report about JJ looking good.
You get to pick ONE headline that Balas and the crew will write in December. Choose the headline that will make you feel best about the program moving forward. Not this season, the program. The only rule is that the headline cannot include a record, or the result of a game (e.g. you can't write "Michigan caps bounce back year with a win over Ohio State" or "Wolverines bury expectations with an 11-win season"). I guess an implied rule is that it's a headline, so you're limited to a headline length.
Beyond that you can use any player, coach, or even recruit. Walter Nolan shocks the Southeast and "Goes Blue" could be your pick, but it sure wouldn't be mind.
Mine is:
"Blake Corum leads Michigan's backfield to it's best statistical year since 2006"
To me this implies that Mike Hart has done his magic, that Gattis has found some balance and success for us - and probably helps get us to that 8-win at least watermark. It also cheats a little bit because it implies that the offensive line is at good/great since you don't have the best season in decades without them, and that should translate to the passing game a bit. I'm using Corum's name because he's 99% back next year and he's versatile enough to be a complement to Donovan Edwards in a two-headed monster the following year with high expectations (we could return a lot in 2022). And since it's obligatory, I think Donovan Edwards coming on could help our NIL perception since he's the type of kid who can truly benefit and we can trumpet (local kid, skill position, big personality).
My honorable mention is probably "MacDonald headed to New York as Broyles Award Finalist," but to be honest I'd be a little too spooked that the NFL would come calling for him if he's "too" good. Many other possibilities, looking forward to hearing yours.
If you want to be a downer and go the other way, fine by you. I'm sure someone will write "Harbaugh fired, early candidates emerge" and I hope you have an awful fall.
