Seriously, this guy seems to always be down on Michigan. His reasoning is all about experience. That we don't have any and Florida has a lot more. Seriously, this is a guy that puts out a major magazine every year. We are a top program, how does he not do his homework.
We have experience, it's just young experience. Let's look position by position against Florida:
QB: only most important position on the field and it's not close. We have a starter with full season under his belt and in his 4th year in the program. They have an albeit talented, RS Fr that has never played in a game.
RB: Our top 3 played major roles last year, with Scarlett out, we have a major experience advantage there
WR: We again, have 3 guys: Perry, Crawford and McDoom who played a lot of football. With Calloway out, it's pretty much a wash. This is one position where talent can outweigh experience. Remember all of the talk about the short passing game, its so these FR get the ball in space, than it's just being an athlete.
TE: Bunting and Wheatley have played a lot of football. Goolsby was the starter last year. We use our TEs so much, this is a wash.
O-line: We have a 4 year starter at LT and a LG that pretty much started all of last year. Our center, even though he hasn't played a ton, is a 5th year guy. Onwenu played last year and I'll be surprised if he's not an improvement. So RT is the big ?. Look at their depth chart, I see Ivey, if he plays, has experience. Their LG is a RS FR, aka has not played, C is a RS SO, RG is a JR, and RT is a True SO. This is pretty close to being a wash and in truth I think we have more experience.
D-line: All 4 of our starters played a ton of football last year and all (especially Hurst and Winovich) made major contributions. Florida has some experience and talent there as well, but it's still a major advantage for us.
LB: We start a 5th year senior captain and two SO that played quite a bit, mainly on ST, but they did get time playing D. The game will not be too fast for them. They start two SO as well as a RS SO. Being that McRay only truly started last year, it's pretty much a was but I'll give us the slight advantage.
DB: They have two seniors here so they will obviously have more experience. It looks like the have a SO and possibly a true FR starting. We have a 3 SO, all who played last year so, again, game will not be too fast or big for them. Tyree has played a lot of football. I feel good with him being the QB of the secondary. Now depth here is an issue but it is for them as well.
On a whole, we are every bit just as experienced as them, and more so at some of the most important positions. Now depth is an issues that needs to be answered but it is for them, if not more so since we have recruited better. Outside of a dislike of Harbaugh, I just don't see what these analysts see when they keep picking Florida, especially with the suspensions. Man, Saturday can't get here quick enough so we can start shutting some people up.
