I have seen this one play out about 30 times at Michigan. The backup QB is the most popular guy on the team. I go all the way back to Steve Smith and BJ Dickey (1981). The fans were screaming from the stands to play BJ!!!
When Speight was playing, O'Korn was the most popular guy on the team:
"Harbaugh should play both Speight and O'Korn and see who can move the team"
"Speight obviously is not the answer."
"We need someone more mobile"
"Why is Harbaugh not playing O'Korn??"
"O'Korn can't be worse than this"
"We need to get O'Korn in there NOW!"
In the aftermath of MSU, as soon as we struggle in the Indiana game we will begin reading posts like:
"Harbaugh should play both O'Korn and Peters and see who can move the team"
"O'Korn obviously is not the answer."
"We need someone more accurate"
"Why is Harbaugh not playing Peters??"
"Peters can't be worse than this"
"We need to get Peters in there NOW!"
