I understand that getting smoked by OSU in Harbaugh’s 4th season isn’t where we wanted to be now. I also understand that 1) there are some reasonable questions about scheme on both sides of the ball and 2) our recruiting hasn’t been at the level of the top 3 or 4 teams out there, and that the gap has real significance as to roster composition.

That said, we have better and more seasoned talent set to return at QB, OL, and WR/TE than ever before under Harbaugh. There’s the potential for an elite QB to be spreading it around to an explosive and seasoned set of targets and handing it off an elite recruit at RB behind a line that should be somewhere between good and very good. When is the last time there’s been as much legitimate reason to expect excellent results on that side of the ball going into a season? I’d be inclined to argue that you’d have to go back to at least the Henne/Hart years.

If contending for a Big 10 title and playoff berth is what you want, the pieces are coming into place in the near term.
