Big Ten Champions in statistically speaking the best conference not only this year but in recent history
11 wins were over Kenpom top 50 teams (tournament type teams)
Will be the 1st Michigan team to garner a 1 seed since the Fab Five
Michigan has the 5th best offense and the 7th best defense in the country per Kenpom
Michigan has the Number 1 recruiting class in the country for 2021 and the Freshman of the year in the Big Ten that by all accounts will be back next year
Mind you they did all of this with one of their best players playing hurt for much of the year
I’d say all in all pretty damn good. I see a lot of angst and hand wringing over the recent play and I agree with some of it but even that is over blown. Michigan has lost to another No. 1 seed (yes blown out) but this game was the 6th game back from the Covid break and Michigan was 5-0 with 3 wins against top 11 Kenpom teams. They had 3 games left and only needed to win 1 for a Big Ten Title. Probably little complacent. The Sparty loss was a meaningless game other than the rivalry after beating the same team by 20 points to win a Big Ten Championship and lock in a 1 seed. Also a starter in Brooks got hurt in the 1st 5 mins.. Yesterday Michigan lost without Livers by 1 point to a 2 seed.
I am a little concerned about the offense’s recent struggles but on this Selection Sunday as a new season is born I think some perspective is needed. This team can go to the Final Four without Livers. If he’s back by then even in limited capacity who knows what can happen.
