First off, for all the remarks we post about how terrible James Franklin is, well he has accomplished something Michigan has not in a decade, despite sanctions. He has won a BIG title fair and square. We can complain about their cupcake schedule, etc but the bottom line is they beat both OSU & Iowa when they needed to and ended up going 9-1 in the BIG. That is impressive. Major kudos to them. Now, on to Michigan and our challenges. PSU was a team that kept improving every week - we seem to have a knack of peaking at mid-season and then just fading away into oblivion. McSorley was money in the last 5-6 games. You have to have a stud QB in this league that can carry the load if you want to win. You also have to have a RB that is a threat which can open up a passing game. I think our enthusiasm in Michigan this year was slightly flawed:
  • Our ability to score points was JH's play calling - he can run so many different plays in so many formations. We scored because of awesome play calling, not because of offensive talent.
  • Our offensive talent is average at best. Let's put it this way - other then Butt, none of our offensive players would be starting in any of Carr's teams.
  • Our seniors and players don't have the mental fortitude to sustain sudden change. Our seniors loved to talk a lot of shit but when it came time to deliver, they always failed. If you talk the talk, walk the walk.
I am still bitter about how many dropped balls and misses we had against Iowa and OSU - it's all on those seniors that boldly claim how great there. Games are played on Saturday, not during interviews and blogs.

Net net, I find it really impressive that Michigan won 10 games, and maybe 11 with the offense we have - that kudos should go to JH. He made the most of the team we had but our seniors just failed to deliver in big games. Was reading a stat about how we had ZERO passing yards in the 4th quarter against Iowa and OSU. We had 5 total yards in the 4th quarter against OSU. Darboh had 5 drops in the 2 losses. Butt had 4. Chesson had 4. These guys are freaking seniors - once again complete lack of mental toughness and I think it's a talent gap. JH got them to play at their peak but their peak is not that great and I expect neither will do great in the NFL. As for Peppers versus Woodson - well not even close anymore. Woodson single-handedly won us games - I have yet to see a game where Peppers really determined the outcome of a close game? Not a single one - he never showed up well in big games. His biggest moment was the 2 point try return against MSU when that game was already over. Talented dude, does not have the ability to carry a team on his shoulder.

I am personally very optimistic about next year actually - I think we will be better then this year - I think we will have better skilled players and the type of players that JH wants - it will be Year 3 in his system. I also think 2018 will be the year where it would not shock me to use being ranked #1 preseason.

Now for playoffs - I go on and off on this. I think you should win a conf championship to make the playoffs. Last year, OSU was clearly the best team in the BIG but MSU went. This year PSU may be the 3rd best team in the BIG but honestly they deserve a spot. I think the playoffs are a mess but all said and done, I expect Saban is going to stream roll through it.

AGP Tarun, I agree with you and only disagree that Peppers wasn't all we expected him to be. He was a very key cog on this team and it's unfortunate that he didn't have a better line behind which to show his offensive wares.

We simply don't have high quality skill offensive players and offensive linemen. That's going to change very soon, but we need patience while we enjoy the turn around. Next year should be interesting as key parts are plugged in, self selected by Harbaugh.

I think the big unknowns for B1G East next year are UM and MSU. OSU and PSU are bringing a ton of starters back (there is always early NFL possibilities for some OSU players). MSU is a complete unknown. Who do they lose, is what they have fixable? Looks like UM will lose a lit of players.

Our starting qb was injured at the end of the season, Am I the only one that noticed that a qb known for throwing nice deep balls never attempted one against OSU.

Crash, you're trying to dazzle us with facts here. And didn't you know, injuries to key UM players - like those in the CO, OSU and yes even the PSU game don't matter - they can't be mentioned. Only the 148 players (might have been 150) injured for PSU, the injured CO QB and on and on - only those matter and can be used as an excuse. And yes don't forget the PSU offense was new, their bus got lost on the way to the stadium and they were not ready to play, the temps were 10 degrees too warm and they were overheating -think i missed a few - but nonetheless if all of that did not happen PSU never would have lost, or I guess CO either.

If one of our other RB's step up this year, we'll see less of Peppers at Wildcat and that suits me just fine. By the MSU game it was predictable on what he was going to do, only attempted the one throw back pass to Speight who completed the play downfield. I'd rather see Peppers in the slot or at RB...no more QB. Enough of the Peppers/Woodson talk....Woodson is one of the All-Timers. Peppers was good on Special Teams but we could have had Lewis back there and it'd be just as good.

Honestly I completely agree. Peppers may have the highest ceiling in the NFL because of his size, speed, understanding of the game, etc but over the past 2 years the best player on the team has been Lewis by far. I think the Lewis loss next year will sting us far more then the Peppers loss. Having said that, the threat of Peppers on offense did open up plays for other players.

Personally, I think that Michigan was the best team in the Big Ten this year. I was really pulling for you guys in the Ohio State game figuring you would beat Wisconsin and head to the playoffs. I would have preferred that to OSU getting in over us. After all, you beat us head to head. Penn State wasn't the most talented team in the Big Ten this year, but they win as a team. We were definitely the most improved team in the Big Ten this season. Good luck in your bowl.
