Hassan broke a 59 yard run. He gutted out a few other second effort carries between the tackles. Evans and Corum each got the edge on one attempt. One circus catch from Henning.
The other 50ish plays we ran were almost uniformly ineffective.
Penn State didn’t precisely waltz through the defense but their running QB appeared able to get 5 yards at will running over the right side of his OL.
The PSU passing QB was marginally successful throwing it, Case was unsuccessful.
PSU’s inability to kick off in bounds helped equalize things a little, but Sainristil’s muff offset that nicely.
Bottom line is that this team just can’t hang at the LOS. Defense can’t get off blocks and ends up with off balance attempts at arm tackles. Offense Line gets beaten cleanly on most snaps. Against a bad PSU team.
When Harbaugh inevitably says (on Monday) that he was pleased that the team played hard, I won’t argue. I think they did (after the first drive, anyway). A winless PSU team was just controlling the LOS on both sides. I honestly wonder how you fix this.
