Someone new has joined my small department - it's just the 2 us - each of us with the same job title/position and some of what we do we can do individually and other things require collaboration and teamwork. We have the same supervisor. What advice would you give someone who is working with a new employee who is ultra-competitive (feels they have to be better at the job than anyone else) even with peers? Always trying to get in front of management, takes ideas from you and presents them as their own, goes around you instead of working with you on things that should be worked on together, keeps information from you that should be shared, is passive aggressive all the time, very disingenuous (presents themselves one way to me and another to everyone else), manipulative, conniving, etc... My read on it is that this person needs to always feel they're the best at what they do and has a need to have the boss/supervisor feel the same way and that's what is most important to the person. Something that really concerns me is I have reason to believe that this person is creating a false narrative about me, making it seem that I am the wrong doer and complaining about me to the supervisor and others in the office about me.

I have always been a team player and have enjoyed collaborating with my co-workers and others in all my work years, but this is impossible with this person, who is more a "me" player, than a team player. I am not a complainer and always try to avoid it. So, I absolutely don't want to complain, but working with this person is difficult and makes work a lot less enjoyable than it used to be. I am a positive, high energy, enthusiastic person, but it has gotten to the point where I am having a hard time hiding my feelings about this and actually showed my frustration about it once in a meeting.

I just want synergy and harmony at work instead of the tension that is there now. Again, we have the same job title and perform the same function in the job (we are peers), requiring collaboration a lot of the time. Any thoughts, advice, ideas on how to address it, make it better, etc...?
