..I'm living right in the narrow path of optimum viewing of the Monday 8/21 event (Greenville, SC). Our local college has opened the football stadium to the general public, where there will be a big pregame show given by members of the physics department. Apparently there hasn't been a hotel room available in Greenville on that date for several months.
Last night I was talking with a member of a first-responders team in Clemson. He had a few thoughts about the day...like make sure you have a full tank of gas and a handful of cash, because the strain on gas pumps and ATM's will be insane. Even the credit card system will be strained. Also, they are prepping for the inevitable "cloudy in Greenville, clear in Clemson/Columbia and the crazy traffic jam that is bound to ensue as thousands clamor for a better viewing spot...
I wonder if I can just pitch a tent and a case of beer on campus and just hang for a couple days...?
