My oldest son who is going into 9th grade next year spent the last 3 days at Michigan. His 8th grade SAT score qualified him to join an elite county scholars program. He had the best experience a kid could have. The 3 days are supposed to simulate some of the college life. He met with engineering professors for 4 hours Monday. They went over expectations each of his years in high school that need to be accomplished to be on track to have an opportunity to be excepted by the University...all academic meetings until the last day. The last day was touring the campus, shopping at MDen and touring the football facilities.
Curious on other posters thoughts on College in this day in age. This scholar program says every kids goal in our state should be to get admitted into Michigan...which I get. Does a kid out of high school turn down 4 years of free college at let's say Svsu or do they pay $100,000 to earn the Michigan degree? My wife and I are educators and we both graduated college without taking out student loans and zero financial help from our parents. This scholar program had over 50% of their students chose Michigan as their college choice with this year's graduating class. I think if he continues to grow as a student he will have the above option to choose from.
