There was an earlier thread about cutting the cord to cable. I cut the Direct TV dependency last week and decided I would stream everything.

We are a device heavy home:
  • 3 smart tvs
  • 1 tv with Roku (babies room)
  • 4 smart phones
  • 2 Playstations
  • 1 Xbox
  • Nest
  • 2 Alexa Echos
  • 1 iPad
  • 1 iPhone
  • 5 laptops
At any given time there are 17 active devices connected to the network.

I have a 50mbs DSL and invested in the Google Mesh network designed to grab all of the bandwidth you purchase and set up a true WiFi instance throughout your entire home. I am now clocking in at a consistent 40mbs when I was losing so much signal using the DSL modems Wireless. Now I am getting 4K picture with any degradation.

I have a medium sized home and network coverage has been amazing. You can run tests to across all the WiFi points to ensure you have them placed correctly throughout your home.

Now we are trying out Sling TV and a Roku to see what this gets us way before kickoff this fall.

I did quite a bit of research on the mesh network options and found Google to the best for the money. Each WiFi point has an Ethernet jack that can be used to direct wire a device and they are super low profile. The application to run the system is really well designed and start to finish setup time took about 20 minutes. Most of that time was me trying to clever with a new network name and password and turning off the modem's wireless.

Sorry for the long post I know there are many out there like me frustrated with poor in home networking performance while paying high fees for satellite TV or Cable.
