OT: Ryobi weed eater died

I have a Ryobi weed eater that works with a 100 foot extension cord that I use to edge my lawn. Last Sunday it died while I was using it. Just seemed to lose power. It is probably 5 years old.

I checked the outlet and cord and there are no issues there.

Any ideas what could be wrong? It is not the power source. The weed eater probably cost less than $100 so I am not going to pay $75 to get get if fixed.
