The article also states that typically refs are placed into three Tiers. Only after being in Tier 3 two years in a row are you at risk of being fired. So something else had to have happened. Or he never rose above Tier 3 since he started in 2015. Strange situation.
Wonder if the ref who called the holding penalty on Higdon was ever disciplined by the BiG. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever know.
