Way off topic, but I could use a break from thinking about what a mess the program is for a little bit. So here's the question I pose to you guys - anyone been doing any research on new trucks and what are your thoughts on what I've laid out below.
I live in CO and spend a lot of time in the mtns on the weekends. I'll tow some recreational vehicles, but never more than probably 6-7.5k lbs - max load would be something like a covered trailer with a couple of snowmobiles or a side by side with tracks on it in the wintertime (possibly a side by side in trailer and sled on the back of the truck as well). With a side by side most of the off roading recreation will be in that vs the truck but it's always fun to have something that's at least off road capable.
I've been mostly looking at Raptors, and the new RAM TRX on the performance side, but also some of the higher end 2021 F150's, GMC AT4/Denali and Chevy LT Trail boss.
Couple of thoughts on this end that I'd love to get some opinions on:
One thing that makes the Raptor so attractive is how well it holds its value. You see a lot of them that may have had a sticker of low to mid 70's that 2 years old with 30k miles are still mid 60's. The idea of driving one for 2-3 years and having some decent equity in it because of the high resale value is attractive. That said, I really wonder with the TRX, Hummer, new Raptor and Raptor Bronco all coming out if the F150 Raptor loses it's corner on the market as the only "supertruck" and if they don't hold their value as well in the near future. The TRX is going to be the new standard bearer in the performance truck category (at least until there's a reveal for the new F150 Raptor). Will it hold it's value like the Raptor has, or even better yet, if I could get one at sticker (most dealers out here are saying they'll be selling them 10-20k over sticker) might I be able to drive it for a couple of years and have it still be worth very close to sticker?
On the other hand will all of the new competition cause all of the above to depreciate like a normal truck would and would I be better off looking at a more "normal" truck? Also anyone in MI hearing anything about if there will be a 21 Raptor? I haven't been able to get any info on that front. Thought I'd heard 22, but now they might try to move up timelines to compete with the TRX. I know they are testing the Bronco Raptor at altitude. Saw one at the Roush shop down the street from my house about two weeks ago wrapped in camo, parked next to a pre-production TRX and they were pretty clearly about to take them out to do some comparison tests, I'd hold onto my Jeep and wait it out for one of those if it weren't for needing something that can tow a little bit.
Looking forward to getting some of your opinions. Thanks in advance.
