So I have been using steel wool and rags to strip paint from 6 kitchen table chairs today. Pain in my ass and pissed that I agreed to do it with the wife. Mostly done for the day. Basically used mineral spirits and a little acetone to assist striping the paint. Also used Citristrip (safe for indoor use but did in garage) which works pretty good if applying enough and waiting for it to work.
So all my rags/wool I had laying in a heap in the garage and then placed them in plastic bags. Remembered vaguely about combustion and got nervous. I now have them in a 5-gallon plastic bucket in driveway filled soaking in water. Am I ok? When trash comes Wednesday morning can I just throw water soaked rags in garbage bag and be good?
Or are mineral spirits not spontaneously combustable? Mixed reviews when googling.
