OT: Looking on advice on where to stay in Maui . . .

I want to take my daughters there over winter break in December. I see that it is very expensive that time of year (nice hotels are at least $800/night). Any suggestions on where to stay? I am looking for something nice and near/on the ocean. Preferably, something with 2 bedrooms. If anyone has any suggestion on how to find a nice hotel/condo/rental home, I'd be greatly appreciative.
