Indianapolis - An added benefit of John Harbaugh having his brother as a fellow NFL head coach the past four years was he knew he never had to sit alone during league conferences. Now with Jim taking over at Michigan, John doesn't have that luxury.
"I'm looking around and I need a buddy. I need my buddy," John said with a smile during the NFL combine Wednesday. "I'm missing him. It's someone to hang out with and get dinner with. I'm not sure who I'm going to sit with any more during the workouts."
John, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, expressed excitement when Jim took the Michigan job last December after four years coaching the San Francisco 49ers and echoed that sentiment Wednesday.
"He's happy there," John Harbaugh said. "We know a lot about Michigan. It's kind of home for us, so he'll do a great job."
And based on his comments Wednesday, John, 52, has been keeping tabs on his young brother. Jim, 51, had courtside seats at the Michigan-Michigan State men's basketball game Tuesday night at Crisler Arena, and photos of him eating pizza with his daughter became popular on social media.
"I saw him last night," John said. "He was with (daughter) Addie at the Michigan game, sitting next to coach (John) Beilein there, eating a pizza. It was funny how close, he was like right next to the head basketball coach a little foot behind just getting after a pizza. I don't know how coach (Beilein) felt about that, but Addie was hungry, so you got to get some food for her."
