What are some of your spring break stories? Try to keep it somewhat under control. lol
I've been to Cancun, San Diego, San Antonio, and Toronto (not so tropical, but I loved the city!) for some of my adult-life spring breaks. Feel free to point out my age when using the word adult-life, as expected. This year, I'm heading to Kentucky with our team to play Kentucky high schools (scrimmage only, thanks MHSAA!) and I'm heading to Nashville this weekend to see one of my life-long best friends who's an Army ranger stationed there. Originally, I wanted to head to Florida but flights are crazy right now and I don't have it in me to make that drive -- I have before, solo, no thanks.
As a 15-year-old sophomore, I went to Topsail Beach in North Carolina, and that's the best message board-friendly spring break story I have.
My dad is a phenomenal human; a member of the site, the most even-keeled guy I know, and has the secret recipe to be unbothered by life, people, etc. That being said, when he books a vacation, brace yourself. He doesn't care about name-brand cities. He cares about the total cost. To him, value isn't in the experiences or the fancy packages, he just wants something normal and not extravagant. I respect it, it's who he is and always will be. HOWEVER, when he told us we were going to MYRTLE BEACH and we ended up at TOPSAIL BEACH -- mind you, I brought a friend who was fully under the impression we'd be teenagers at MB during high school spring break -- he really outdid himself.
Allow me to provide perspective.

Topsail Beach:
Now, I know what some of you are thinking: Oh, look how peaceful Topsail looks in comparison to Myrtle Beach, which is true. But, folks, we were one of THREE FAMILIES ON THE BEACH THAT WEEK. It was a ghost town. Not to mention, the weeks leading up to that trip and the entirety of the 12.5-hour drive-in, all six of us in the vehicle were under the impression we would be going to Myrtle Beach.
Everyone but ... dad.
Bless his heart, gave him so much slack that week.
"Oh, we're having so much fun in Myrt--- OH WAIT! We were lied to ... led astray ... hoodwinked! And now, here we are, in Nowhere, America!"
I want to give him credit, though, we had a nice beachfront and he did drive us all TWO HOURS to Myrtle Beach on the third day of our trip. And, yes, we got to see all of the high school seniors on spring break there. Boy, was that place busy...
This brings me back to my original note about adult life... looking back on it, that was probably the perfect vacation for my dad. He works tirelessly running his own company and has for nearly 20 years now. As much as the teenagers in the crew would've loved MB, I can look back and say, dang, Ray probably ate up every second of that trip. Peace and quiet was everything he needed -- and still does, he still has two teenagers in the house.
Long story short, he's gone back every year since, and I haven't gone back once. 😂 Topsail is a family tradition for him. Unfortunately, I'm always working during their trip. And in a shock to no one, I am working again this year (hello, spring game!).
It's always funny to look back on that trip. I remember looking out the window as we approached what I thought was Myrtle Beach, only to be in some random beach town named Topsail.
Who would've thought that place would become an annual tradition for the Justice fam?
What are some of your spring break stories? I know it's a slow news week, so I figured this would create some conversation!
