Fort Brethren,
I'm engaged, and the wedding is this spring in Ann Arbor.
We are looking for a spot to host an informal, relaxing get-together the night before the wedding. Probably 100-140 people will be there.
One idea is at a park. Rent a tent, get one of those mobile pizza oven trucks or grill or bring in some kind of food. Play some bags, toss a football, get a few kegs and instruct people to come and go as they please over a four-hour period. The Parks Dept. has been great at answering questions and talking through options. If there were a guarantee of good weather, this would be my ideal rehearsal dinner. The problem is, obviously, if there's bad weather the whole thing will kind of suck. A contingency plan feels important.
That's why I'd also like to explore renting out Dominick's back patio, because IIRC there's ample indoor/covered space too. Anyone done this? I know it's closed all winter. The listed phone number just rings and rings. I can't find an email address online. Does anyone know the contact information of the owner or a manager? This mlive story identifies a man named Richard DeVarti as the owner, but whitepages.com is trying to charge me to get the number. Or if anyone has LexisNexis, maybe you'd run a search for me and PM me his number?
Taking suggestions on the whole approach and would be really grateful if anyone has specific ideas for a good location, especially an outdoor location with an indoor contingency plan. Thanks much.
