Coming back from Detroit Metro Airport from a weekend in Vegas yesterday...want to stop and get something to drink off I-94 in Romulus. Make a right hand turn from the exit ramp and boom I have a cop lighting me up. I literally have no idea as to why he was pulling me over. I think it is because of my tinted windows. He states that I failed to make a complete stop from the exit ramp and that there is a zero tolerance. Comes back with a $180 ticket worth 3 points for "Disregarding a stop sign." He didn't even ask for insurance or proof of registration, just my license. It didn't seem like the type I should argue with.
When he handed me the ticket he said there are instructions on how to fight it and how much it cost on the ticket.
I live in Holland, MI so I'm wondering what are my chances of winning as I would need to drive all the way over there. Also, I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday and will be gone for 10 days. I have 14 days to pay the ticket. If I deny responsibility then when is my informal hearing date?
Any attorney's out there or people that have had similar experiences?
Quite honestly I don't remember if I came to a complete stop (wheels completely stopped). I do know that I was able to look both ways before turning so if anything it was more of a "roll" through instead of a completely stopping for 3 seconds.
