As most of you know from the news, there have been serious issues with power and water down here in Texas the last few days. If there was a thread about it, I didn't see it, so my apologies if this has already been discussed. But luckily, me and my family were only marginally impacted. We had power throughout until 6:30am yesterday. We got it back around 7pm yesterday evening, so we were only down for about 12 hours. I know many people who were down for 2-3 days. No fun even in normal times, but especially when we have record cold temps outside. Still very thankful that our impacts were minimal.

Other things I'm thankful for today...

1) That we kept water throughout, although starting yesterday we were told to boil it prior to consumption. We're still in that situation now, but it's manageable. I can't imagine living like this for months though. Feel so sorry for the folks from Flint who've been dealing with this for what...over 2-3 years now?
2) Our gas fireplace. It kept our living room nice and warm throughout the 12 hours. Those without gas fireplaces had to go to special warming centers set up around Houston, or book a hotel, or to stay at a friend's place if they could find friends with power. My wife's friend over in Katy (an hour drive from us) was bouncing from family to family to try to stay warm without overstaying their welcome.
3) Our gas stove. We were still able to cook even with no power.
