The favorite opening lines thread went so well, thought I'd try this one on for size.
Methinks this will be much more challenging, both to pick favorites and to identify them. So I suggest we all id the song and artist (if for no other reason than I want a chance to listen to them and add to my I-pod.
I'll start with a few of my favorites:
They called it paradise, I don't know why.
Call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye.
(The Eagles: The Last Resort)
And somewhere between the time you arrive And the time you go
May lie a reason you were alive But you'll never know
And, in the end The love you take
is equal to the love you make.
(The Beatles, The End)
And you and I climb, clearer towards the movement
And you and I called over valleys of endless seas
(Yes, And You And I)
And in the quick of the night They reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand But they wind up wounded
Not even dead Tonight in Jungleland
(Bruce, Jungleland)
Conquistador there is no time I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall I see there is no aureole
And though you came with sword held high You did not conquer, only die
And though I hoped for something to find I could see no maze to unwind
(Procol Harum, Conquistador)
And last, but not least, for H-Town:
Hail! to the victors valiant Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan, the champions of the West!
