That’s a jumbled thread title, but my mind’s also jumbled at the moment. I sincerely think The Fort is a great community with a lot of brain power; so here’s my story:
During 2020 down time I started a business/brand called Live Better FASTER. In essence it’s a mantra and practice to help people, myself included, achieve more goals and live happier, more fulfilling lives (should they be interested in that kind of thing).
Think wanna-be Life is Good brand, but mine is an acronym that literally stands for/means something (based on an acronym).
I have a trademark thanks to a college teammate who’s now an attorney. I created a functional Shopify page/store (and self-created GoDaddy site because I didn’t know you can’t simply merge the 2, but that’s a next step/lesson learned). I’m borderline inept when it comes to technology, but trying to learn as I go. To begin, I’m using a print-on-demand company out of Detroit. Bought some samples myself and I’m pleased with quality and price point (I could get better pricing by bulk printing, but I don’t want to handle inventory).
****Here’s my inquiry for CPAs, business gurus, consultant types, or Forters who may have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express:
If I’ve built in a set profit margin of X for all my products, will I totally be screwing myself if my goal is to set up a non-profit to give roughly 50% of X to charitable causes? I want charitable donation to be part of the business structure, online community, and organic marketing (people get to choose where their donation goes), but also want to remain in business and grow. Essentially, I want to give a lot and create critical mass with the charitable element, but is there a diminishing point of “giving” as far as tax law goes??
I have a primary sales job with no connection to this, very little expenses tied to this venture other than needing to properly set up/merge websites, and some graphic design ideas to implement.
If anyone is curious to see the brand store (not fishing for sales, but by all means...) or video introducing Live Better FASTER, I’m open to constructive criticism (and aware that some harsh criticism may come too).
Be easy on me; it’s uncomfortable to venture into the unknown and put something that’s been on my mind and in my heart out for judgement. However; it’s time for me to follow my own brand/mantra and Live Better FASTER: believe I can, do it, keep going, no matter what, stay positive, and do what’s right.
