Was hoping folks might be able to provide some guidance on navigating the college admissions process.
My oldest son is 16, currently a sophomore in high school.
Some quick things about him:
- Was number 1 in his class as a freshmen, including AP classes.
- Similar situation as a sophomore, 3 AP classes, very high grades
- Generally does not have to work overly hard even though he gets such good grades
- On the golf team, still learning the game but kind of middle of the pack as far as his team goes. More for fun than anything. Not going to be good enough to continue beyond this level.
- Fairly quiet kid, although seems to be vocal in class and with his peers, but overall a bit more quiet.
- Has not engaged in many other extracurricular activities outside of the golf.
I am trying to figure out the best way to get some guidance on planning and prepping for the college admissions process. What things can he be doing to improve his choices? When does everything start (testing, essays, admissions), are the consulting services worth taking a look at and if so, anyone have any experience with one that you would recommend.
Financially, we are in a position to support whatever he chooses and is able to get accepted to, so really want to help him have as many choices as possible.
Appreciate any guidance folks can offer.
