Just thinking after Houston’s win that Verlander must be a near lock for the Hall of Fame. Cabrera as well. Which got me to thinking, who was the last player inducted into the Hall of Fame who was primarily a Detroit Tiger?

I can only think of Al Kaline. By the time the Tigers won the World Series in 1968 he was in the twilight of his career and not really one of the stars of that team. I can’t think of anybody since Kaline on that 68 team who is a Hall of Famer. The 84 team had several possible candidates-Morris, Trammell, Whitaker, Gibson, Parrish-but they all did not produce the career figures to make it. Morris and Trammell were probably the closest.

Also wondering how many other teams have gone so long without producing a Hall of Famer. I mean, Kaline was a rookie in something like 1951. Half a century gap in our farm system between him and Vetlander. Holy Toledo!
