Had a presentation this afternoon. Basically I would buy the system and pay it off over a 20 year loan. The way I calculate it I’m really looking at a wash cost-wise over the first 7-8 years and then I should save $$ after that.

Throw away, “How long are you going to be in the house?” If there’s anything the last 10 years have taught me: I have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone a year or 5 down the road. Most likely I’ll be in this house at least another 8 years at a minimum.

My concerns:

Selling the house. It it easy enough to pass a system (and payment) to the next owner? Is it a positive to buyers? Any nightmare experiences?

Of course there’s long guarantees on the equipment, etc. But what if something goes wrong with the system? Any cost calculations would be out the window with a large repair bill.

What am I not thinking of?
Anybody had good, bad experiences?

Honestly I’d be doing this more to do my part to use renewable energy more than to save a lot of money. The big wild card is the rates that the energy company charges for electricity. The solar company told me to figure a 4% increase per year. If rates went up more sharply then the savings would be better, obviously.

I appreciate any thoughts or feedback from the team on here!!!
