So as we were sitting around the kitchen table a few months back and talking about where the kids in my son's class are going, I asked about Michael -- one of my favorite players from my son's class. He and my son were my starting LBs for three years straight. Michael is a terrific kid, really smart, great leader, and he's got a real presence that makes other kids follow. Tough enough to scare them, smart enough to come up with good ideas, and just edgy enough to make it seem like both the right and fun thing to do. Whenever we had a kid who might be struggling, we could always count on Michael to buddy up with the guy and get the other kids to give him a chance.
So anyway, my son says -- "oh, he just decided -- he's going to Michigan."
BOOM! (hand hits counter; dogs run for cover) "I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON I ALWAYS LIKED THAT KID!!!"
Michael left for Ann Arbor this morning -- accompanied by my copies of HBO's "The Rivalry" and "Michigan Memories." We are passionate people. But our passions are educated passions.
Which puts us in stark contrast to those pig-f***ers to the South.
What a wonderful adventure for a terrific young man. I can't wait to meet up with him at a tailgate in the future. . .
