This is the last week of my getting a free pass from my horror hating girlfriend to watch incredibly weird horror films, so who has some recs? I’ve been on a VERY weird kick of late. Here’s a few obscure, wildly unsettling movies I’ve forced her to endure of late, if you have anything the gorier and weirder the better:
1. terrifier: incredibly low budget, but a cult favorite that just got a sequel green lit through a go fund me. Has the most disturbing scene I’ve ever seen in a movie, and I’m someone that’s seen ALOT of horror films. Long story short it’s about a very angry clown that doesn’t some extremely creative killing.
2. Martyrs: to quote my college roommate “so unbelievable I really can’t even believe it.” It is subtitled. Story of a woman that had a traumatic childhood and a recurring dream of a girl being tortured that she didn’t save when she escaped. She goes back to her childhood home and finds it wasn’t a dream. In sum, an occult that believes you can reach transcendence through extreme pain is, well, inflicting extreme pain.
3. 31: rob zombie being peak rob zombie, IMO. Pretty nonsensical story about a group of super rich people; that appear to be relatives but sexually involved, that gamble on a sort of theme park of death, in which prisoners are tasked with surviving 8 hours while being hunted by maniacs of assorted weirdness.
4. Green Inferno: interesting premise but terribly acted. I’m a massive Eli Roth fan (hostel, cabin fever, the “bear jew” in inglorious Bastards) and it’s pretty amazing he was able to get the footage he was. This is a sort of political gore fest about environmental demonstrators going into the Amazon and encountering a tribe of cannibals.
5. VHS 94: maybe the oddest film I’ve ever seen. Extremely gory. Essentially no story line as it’s a group of 5 vignettes that are unrelated aside from all of the, you guessed it, VHS tapes being found in the same home.
Suggestions for something so weird/scary she gets mad at me or questions my sanity?
