On yesterday's phantom goaltend, I'm wondering...

assuming the rules were the same back then, wouldn't it have been more plausible for the refs in the NC State-Houston game in '83 to call a goaltend on Lorenzo Charles when he grabbed Whittenburg's shot out of the air on its downward path and scored the final basket?
