and the "experts" predictions.
Preseason:
D-Line has lots of question marks. Chris Hinton struggled in spring ball. No real option at rush LB opposite Hutch. Hutch would be solid. Still a LOT of question about Mazi and his conditioning. No depth behind them. Jeter hasn't stepped and don't expect much out of him.
Postseason:
Hutch wins every defensive award known to man...finishes 2nd in the Heisman (should have won it). Hinton was a monster inside as was Mazi. Ojabo was an absolute stud and the depth from Jeter and company did a good job.
Preseason:
Linebacker will be a weak spot. Ross is slow and doesn't get to the ball. Make Barrett will start opposite Ross but dont expect much. Junior Colson could contribute some.
Postseason:
Ross was the leader of the defense as evidenced when he sat out the 2nd half of the Rutgers game. Green-Hill played quite well and by the end of the season Junior Colson was a stud who will only get better.
Preseason:
The secondary was terrible in 2020 so don't expect much improvement but MMs schemes may help a little with the corners and safeties. Need someone to step up and replace Green and Gray. Dax and Hawkins should be solid with Dax playing all over the field but they don't have anyone to replace Dax at safety.
Postseason:
Gray played incredibly well in both zone and man coverage...Green played well until his injury and DJ was stellar and never gave up his starting role. RJ played well but was supplanted by the freshman Moose who is an outstanding open field tackler. Hawkins played his ass off the whole season. The weak secondary became a strength.
Overall grade for the defense for the "experts" F for epic failure. This grade also comes from the weekly nitpicking criticism and doubting the talent on this team. We heard to many times Michigan wasn't as talented as osu yet that lesser team kicked the hell out of the superior team. This team is going to win the NC...they are destined!
