He quit the band in 1998 and left the music biz. He played a few shows here and there over the next several years but (at least per the story I saw) had not performed on stage since 2005....
Until he comes out for his first show in over a decade at a smal club in Minneapolis to sing the song:
"It's a Mother****er" with the band Eels, a very bizarre indie/alt band.
I've been an Eels fan since before they started (frontman Mark Oliver Everett basically IS the band Eels and he did two great solo albums under the name "E", before forming Eels). The last collaboration I'd have ever guessed I'd see is Steve Perry and Mark Oliver Everett.
