Observations on a Big Win
Some will roll their eyes at me for calling this a big win.
It is without question a big win for the following reason. The team had quit on themselves. their heads were down. that attitude was going to take the entire program down. Yet, in the second half, suddenly, there is energy, spirit, guys are running faster, hitting harder and fighting through adversity rather than just surrendering to it
THAT is what makes this a very very Big Win. We have hope.

Observations

  • Energy: The entire attitude and energy of the team came alive in the second half. Guys were running faster, hitting harder and jumping up and down, having fun, high-fives, rather than having their heads down.
  • Balance: Did you notice that when the passing game came alive, suddenly the running game became effective? This offense loves balance.
  • Gattis Offense: The Gattis Offense had some life when Cade started stretching the defense. I saw the speed in space concept working for the first time this year.
  • Offense Personnel: We played with a patchwork OL that had ZERO 2019 starters, and a freshman starting. Its a mess, yet it delivered 495 yards (what??)
  • Defense Personnel: We were without Hutchinson, Paye, McGrone, Hawkins(portions), and Ambrey Thomas (opt out). At one point I think we had ZERO 2019 defensive starters on the field and two walk-ons. Lots of things to fix on defense, but remember, "Its not all about the X's and O'x its about the Jimmy's and Joes".
  • McNamarra: For all of his physical skills his most important trait may be: Swagger. He was cool, calm, in charge and never seemed flustered or overcome by the moment. He looked like a pro. He LIFTED the entire team and he WILLED this team to victory. A few guys in Michigan history had that same swagger. He reminds me of Brian Griese.
  • Unsung Heros: Reynolds & Shibley came off the bench to play at a high level of confidence and skill. They earned more minutes and helmet stickers
  • Joe Milton: The guy gives his all for the team. He is loyal, a teammate. I have nothing but praise for him as a person and a teammate.
  • Giles Jackson!: What a lift!
  • ONE Turnover: I think this has been overlooked here but it is HUGE. Last night the team (edit ONE Turnover) with young players and nonstarters all over the field.
  • Tomorrow: We cannot revise the past. We can focus on the remaining games and look toward the future. Fight for each play, each game, each win. Build on that. 2021 looks decidedly brighter today, than it did yesterday. I'm not quitting.
