the binding letter of intent. It's called a declaration.

So instead of commitment or maybe even promise (implies you will do something)...how about declaration. Such and such kid has 'declared' for UM. It implies you will do something but doesn't necessarily imply a definitive future act. It implies you have declared you will do something but gives a little wiggle room to back out.

Declaration? Let's come up with a better word to describe recruiting verbals before NLI signing day. Verbal would probably do it too.

Those terms are already widely used as people who actually follow recruiting closely can tell you.

Who the hell cares? I don't understand why people are so bothered by the system. We all know that lots of high school kids are going to be getting scholarships to play football next year. Other than that there are no guarantees right now.

If people don't like it, then stop following recruiting.

Imagine the dilemma for these kids - "Hmmm, which of the 20-40 schools do I want to get a diploma from...for free?" Everyone loves to make the recruits victims when the reality is that there are millions of seniors in HS that would love to have the options these kids have. No matter what their situation, they have the opportunity to be set for life with a diploma, for free!
