Phillip Paea is a stock-rising 3-star DL from the west side of Michigan, and also the subject of a brand new edition of, "Jim Harbaugh did what?".
Paea visited Michigan on Wednesday night for the Northwestern basketball game, and while he was touring the facilities with new staff member, Tony Tuioti, Harbaugh was planning on how to wow the in-state recruit in a way we have not yet of heard from the pioneer of 1,000 ways to recruit.
Harbaugh attended WWE Raw in Detroit on Monday night, and he took his fandom to a whole new level on Wednesday when he had a wrestling match with Paea.
"(Harbaugh) was real interesting," he said. "We actually wrestled for a little bit. He's definitely one coach you won't find at any other school."
Outside of the unorthodox approach to wowing a recruit with a wrestling match, Michigan impressed Paea a lot.
"(Michigan) is good at what they do," he said. "Come on, it's the University of Michigan."
Paea got the grand tour, and he was amazed from beginning to end.
"Everything just kept getting better and better," he said. "There was never a dull moment on the visit."
Prior to meeting Harbaugh, Paea was given a tour by Tuioti, and the relationship is great between the two now.
"I was with him the whole day," he said. "He's a big part of the reason why I liked Michigan so much. Being an islander, like myself, we had a great connection."
Paea is only a few short hours away from Ann Arbor, and he confirmed that will play a role in his recruitment.
"I have family on the west coast, and I have home in Michigan," he said. "I'll probably end up either somewhere in Michigan, or somewhere on the west coast near family."
Paea ended off his visit meeting Michigan's defensive coordinator, Don Brown.
"It was amazing," he said. "His scheme is crazy, I can't even explain it.. I can definitely see myself playing in (the defense)."
Paea said Michigan 'definitely' sits near the top of his list, and he will visit again for the spring game on April 1st.
He plans to commit before his senior season this fall.
UPDATE: Paea told me that Harbaugh won the wrestling match. Did you really think Harbaugh would let anyone defeat him in anything?
