and we all know that another Bo Schembechler isn't (to use Rick Pitino's slightly petulant phrase) "walking through that door." They broke the mold.

Nostalgia does no one any good. But occasionally it is worthwhile to look back and count your blessings.

I am a lucky man. I have had one hero in my life -- my father -- and he's never let me down. But, from afar, I was lucky enough to enjoy the prime of one of the greatest football coaches of all time. It was a hell of a ride -- perhaps not to be replicated in any fashion during my lifetime. If so, fair enough.

But here, in one of the most dismal seasons I can ever recall for Michigan football, I just hope that at some point, more generations of Michigan fans will get to enjoy the consistent excellence, toughness, and integrity that was Michigan football during my youth.

Even from the cheap seats, life was a little more fun with Bo around. The man stomped the terra.
