Sorry for the lateness of this, and it's shortness. Got married over the weekend so wasn't as tuned in as normal.
TEAM OF THE WEEK:
Field Hockey - They only had one game, but it was an absolute demolition of a heated rival. They crushed MSU 6-0 and could have made it worse if they wanted to. Probably won't move them much in the polls, because MSU is bad, but it's always satisfying to destroy any Spartan team. Huge game this weekend as they travel to Happy Valley to play a PSU team that is ranked in the top 3 I believe.
Women's Soccer - Not a great week, but could've been worse. The soccer team kicked off Big Ten play with 2 home games against Purdue and Indiana (2 teams projected to not do well in the Big Ten). However, Michigan had 2 starters out with injuries in the midfield and it cost them. They lost to Purdue 1-0 before rebounding to beat Indiana 2-1. Right now, they're squarely a bubble team. Plenty of time to improve, and hopefully get healthy, but some tough games are on the horizon.
Men's Soccer - Had 1 loss and 1 tie for the week, but it's better than it sounds. The tie came on the road against the #1 Indiana Hoosiers. Junior Robbie Mertz had the goal to tie it in the 2nd half. The loss came to MSU thanks to incredibly incompetent officiating. First, Michigan had a player red-carded after the MSU player tricked the ref into thinking that the Michigan player kicked him in the face, (replays showed he kicked the ball into his face). Then MSU's, let's say "aggressive" style of play injured both of our central defenders. One of the injuries came on a straight up dirty play that was extremely dangerous, but somehow only warranted a yellow. MSU eventually won 1-0 in overtime. Would love to see them again in the Big Ten tourney. Michigan was every bit as good, and probably gets at least a draw without Bozo the Clown as the ref.
Volleyball - Played some weak opponents...beat them pretty easily...but still not as dominant as you'd like to see. They start Big Ten play this week with two brutally tough road games. Just going 1-1 would be a victory, but they'll need to play better.
