I have no confidence in Jim Harbaugh, his staff and this team. I don’t know if the culture is broken. But I do think that this staff is awful in every aspect of their duties right now. I do not have confidence is Warde’s ability to get a coach that will improve the culture here. In large part, that is because I have zero confidence in this fan base giving an outsider a genuine opportunity to succeed. We will invariably still be trapped in our Michigan Man bullshit. This is what stains our culture more than any aspect of our program over the years. It is epitome of unbridled and undeserved arrogance and as long as we hold on to the vestiges of this delusion we will never advance as a program.
And before someone suggests that I just don’t appreciate what Michigan Man means, that’s horse manure. My family has attended Michigan since the 1840s, and we’ve been athletes, students, teachers and engineers, doctoral candidates and law students at Michigan. If the Michigan Man crap can’t sway me and my family, it is debatable whether it should sway anyone.
You want a successful football team? Invite someone in from the outside, someone with NO connection to Michigan, and then have the guts to shut up and let him coach.
As a result of all of these bad options, Jim Harbaugh will be back next year. Here’s to him finding the old Jim. Otherwise, we are in for another long season.
